Course Overview

In India, it is a common trend to include Trigonometric questions in the Quantitative Aptitude section of Government exams, especially in SSC, IB ACIO, RRB, NTPC, Railway etc. The weightage and the level of the questions have gradually increased from beginner to moderate level, thus solving these questions require aspirants to have good knowledge of basic identities and concepts behind them.

In the course, we, will discuss all the important concepts, formulas, identities required for scoring well in the exams. We have divided the course into

1) Trigonometry

2) Height & distance

In trigonometry, we have discussed questions of equation type and in Height and distance, we have covered practical use of trigonometry in real life.

Please Note: This course is for the preparation of Government and Competitive exams in India. However, for preparation of Engineering level exams like IIT JEE, we have covered Inverse Trigonometry, Graphs, Differentiation & integration in a separate Course which would be updated shortly.

Prerequisite

It is expected that students reading this course must be having a basic idea of

1) Types of triangles (like right-angled triangle etc)

2) Side of triangle.

3) Angles of triangle

4) Basic properties of triangle (like sum of all the angles of a triangle is 180, Pythagoras Theorem etc.)

Pythagoras theorem:: In a right-angled triangle, the square of the hypotenuse is equal to the sum of squares of the other two sides.

\(H^2 = P^2 +B^2\)

General Approach for Solving Questions

♦ Memorize the sin, cos and tan of angle (0°, 15°, 30°, 45°, 60° and 90° degree)

♦ Try to learn these Pythagoras triplets for fast calculation: -

(3, 4, 5), (5,12,13), (7, 24, 25), (8, 15, 17), (9, 40, 41), (11, 60, 61), (12,35, 37), (13, 84, 85), (15, 112, 113), (16, 63, 65), (17,144, 145), (19, 180, 181), (20, 21, 29), (20, 99 ,101), (21, 220,221)

Trigonometry Equation Based Question: Try to solve the question by hit and trial method, if a question is of general value of theta (θ), try to evaluate the question by putting θ = 45° and find the correct answer given in the options. In the course, we have solved many questions by using this method.

Height & distance: Try to follow the steps given-

1) Read the Question and immediately make a pen drawing in form of triangle(s).

2) Mark all the angles and sides in the figure as given in the question, also identify the side/ angle asked in the question.
